Bedford Little League Families:
Over the last year-plus, Bedford Little League has been working with the town on a proposal to build a new little league complex at the Swenson Fields off Jenkins Road. The plan, if approved by the voters, would build a centralized Little League complex with five fields, including one for tee-ball players, and would include lights.
As some of you know, our primary little league complex on Nashua Road is built on a landfill. That means that even if Bedford Little League could somehow fundraise enough money to completely redo those fields, fix the fences, put in lights, etc., we wouldn't be able to do any of it because we cannot do any digging whatsoever on those fields. As it is, over the last two years, we have put in over $80,000 of work to maintain, improve, and build the fields that we use for our hundreds and hundreds of players.
But these are bandaids. None of them is a long-term solution to the straightforward problem we have, which is that we cannot improve the fields or the clubhouse at our complex, or add lights, because of where that complex is built. The proposed solution would give us a single, centrally-located complex, where players of every age could play, where we could add increased practice time for the kids, and where we could have a facility on par with other little leagues in New Hampshire that would last for generations.
Next Monday, February 3, at 6:30 pm at the Bedford High School Auditorium, the town will hold a deliberative session on the 2025 Town Budget and associated warrant articles. For lack of a better way to say, it is at this meeting where the decisions as to what will go on the ballot in March will be made by the people in attendance.
If there is any way for you to attend the meeting to support this proposal, the league would be eternally grateful if you would. The request is simply to attend - no one will need to speak or do anything other than, if necessary, indicate support for the proposal. I cannot overstate the importance of having supporters there - it will be the difference between having this proposal on the ballot in March or not.
Thanks very much for reading and for being a part of Bedford Little League. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to me at [email protected].
